INFLUENCER PROFILE - JESINTA FRANKLIN
We first got to know Gold Coast born and bred Jesinta Franklin in 2010 when she was crowned Miss Universe Australia. We're proud to say that one of her very first brand ambassadorships was with us! These days, Jesinta is a popular media presenter, model and entrepreneur, plus long-time friend of Nude by Nature. We are currently celebrating our 10 year anniversary, and Jesinta has joined the festivities! We caught up with Jesinta this week, and you can discover more about our chat in the below: Nude by Nature (NBN): What are a couple of your top make-up hacks? Jesinta: For me, any great beauty look starts with good skin. Whilst I have a very strict skincare regime I stick to, I also drink lots of water and ensure I am including lots of things in my diet that assist me in glowing from the inside out. Radiant skin always shines through, (even with make-up), so I always place a big emphasis on prepping my skin before applying any make-up. I also think, less is more, make-up should enhance your natural beauty, not cover it up. NBN: Do you have a favourite Nude by Nature make-up product and why? Jesinta: I love the Nude by Nature Natural Mineral Cover Foundation for everyday wear. It provides just enough coverage over your moisturiser, yet is lightweight and perfect for an off duty look. NBN: In terms of beauty products, what do you think every Australian should use daily or frequently? Jesinta: Here in Australia it is so important to apply an SPF daily, especially to your face. With such harsh sun, every little bit of extra sun protection counts. NBN: Travel is a big part of your life. Have there been any places you’ve visited in the past 12 months that were so much better than you were expecting, and why. Jesinta: I recently travelled to Iceland for a holiday and it blew my mind. I was expecting it to be incredible but everything was so much better than I could have ever imagined. It was like being on another planet and no videos or pictures could ever do it justice. It's a small country. We drove around it in 10 days, however the scenery and landscape changes so drastically and sometimes all in the space of five minutes. We would be driving, and it would be sunny and clear skies, then five minutes later it was snowing! Iceland was definitely one of the most interesting and memorable places I have ever travelled to. Jesinta: I try to use Instagram just for work purposes, and try not to spend too much time on it. But as we all know, it is hard to manage our time on social platforms and it's not always easy to minimise how much we use it. Perth native Kiara King is a style, fashion and travel content creator and influencer. Since starting her blog Lion In The Wild, post graduating from university, she has worked hard to grow and evolve both the blog and her social channels, to now being one of Australia's most popular for her authenticity and the beautiful content that she shares across all her channels. We have collaborated with Kiara a few times in the past year, and caught up with her after she returned from a recent trip to New York. Check out our conversation below: Nude by Nature (NbN): Are you able to share the background on how you first started Lion In The Wild, and your plans for 2019. Kiara: I was working full-time, having just graduated from university with a Bachelor in Creative Advertising Design and, truth be told, Lion in the Wild was born out of pure weekend boredom as a personal creative project. Before long, it unexpectedly took off and has developed into the platform it is now. We have a number of very exciting projects and partnerships planned for 2019, as well as launching our new venture, In the Wild Creative, which you’ll be hearing more about very soon! Nude by Nature (NbN): Congratulations on your recent marriage! That must make 2018 quite an extraordinary year for you. Are you able to share any other unforgettable moments from the last year? Kiara: Marrying my best friend/love of my life/lifetime sidekick undoubtedly tops the list for 2018, which will forever go down as the most unforgettably amazing year (so far). I was fortunate enough to travel to 18 amazing countries, which included swimming with sharks in the Maldives and hanging out with (real) lions in the wild in South Africa. To say it was special would be a huge understatement. I’m still pinching myself! Nude by Nature (NbN): What do you think are a couple of the most important beauty products that every woman should own? Kiara: A hydrating, flawless base with SPF, and a moisturising lipstick or lipgloss. For me, it’s all about healthy, glowing skin and products with amazing natural ingredients. Nude by Nature (NbN): What are a couple of your top beauty hacks? Kiara: Two of my go-to beauty hacks are: 1) Applying highlighter to the inner corners of my eyes, which not only makes your eyes pop, but gives the illusion of 8-hours sleep. 2) For perfect beachy waves without using heat products, after washing and towel drying my hair, I twist small sections of hair and leave them overnight. When I wake-up, I comb them through and am left with super easy and healthy waves. It’s the best time saver! Nude by Nature (NbN): A couple of our biggest points of difference as a brand are that all our make-up products are enriched with 100% natural ingredients, and we are proudly cruelty-free. Do you think people are becoming more aware of what’s in the make-up and hair products that they use, and are re-thinking their product choices? Kiara: People are becoming increasingly savvy and discerning when it comes to the brands they purchase from, and cruelty-free, natural ingredients from ethical companies are at the top of the list in which beauty customers buy - myself included. It’s the way of the future and it’s a long time coming. Nude by Nature (NbN): Are you able to share with us a few of your favourite Nude by Nature products, and why? Kiara: Where do I begin? The Defining Brow Pencil and Precision Brow Mascara are daily favourites of mine since the collection launched (not a day has gone by without me reaching for one or the other). Like I said, there’s so many favourites! Nude by Nature (NbN): Are you someone who still enjoys flicking through a magazine, or do you find you consume all your media online? Kiara: I mostly find myself consuming digital media these days, but I truly miss the moments I used to spend reading magazines and books, so much so that I’ve begun reading my favourites again like Porter, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Grazia. If anything, I find print even more inspirational and valuable than before in this instantaneous world. Nude by Nature (NbN): Do you have a few favourite Instagram accounts, that you religiously follow? Kiara: Now this is going to be a tough one to narrow down. I currently can’t get enough of @leoniehanne for her creative style content, @ohuprettythings for her beauty photography and @isabellath for her authentic travel content. They’re all a must follow if you want constant inspiration! Nude by Nature (NbN): You love to travel! Are you able to let us know about a couple of your favourite travel destinations? Plus, do you have many travel plans for 2019, and if so, are you able to reveal what’s on your list! Kiara: Japan and New Zealand will be forever in my heart as two of my favourite travel destinations that I’ve visited more than I care to admit (I just can’t get enough!), but I also loved the Maldives, France and South Africa. As for 2019, we’ve just arrived home from a few weeks in New York City and depart for Dubai next week (exciting!), but we’re also hoping to see more of Australia this year, especially my beautiful home state, Western Australia. Nude by Nature (NbN): As a Perth local, do you have a few secret places that you recommend that visitors ‘must do’ when they’re in your hometown? Kiara: If you’re looking for iconic locations, no Perth trip is complete without visiting Kings Park for the best city views and Cottesloe, arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. If you’re a foodie (or a coffee snob), then you should definitely head into Fremantle for a bite, which is home to the coolest cafes, restaurants and bars. If you want to do a day trip, then you’ll fall in-love with Rottnest Island for untouched coves, reefs and, of course, quokkas! And if you’ve got time for a weekend away (or longer), hire a car and go down south to my personal favourite, the Margaret River Region (a 3-hour drive from Perth), for world class surf, wine, cuisine and so much more. Can you tell I’m a little in-love with where I’m from? Nude by Nature (NbN): Final question! Do you have a favourite quote or phrase that motivates and inspires you in your daily life? Kiara: “Love what you do and do what you love.” - It’s a quote I’ve lived by in my adulthood, vowing to wake-up everyday excited for the day ahead, regardless of whether it be a weekday or weekend. The lovely Rhiannon Taylor is a food, travel and lifestyle photographer based in Melbourne. As well as her editorial photography work for a diverse mix of clients, she created In Bed With a few years ago initially as a side hustle and one now that is a full time project with a dedicated community of loyal followers around the world. Visit the In Bed With blog, and you're immediately asked the question, "Who are you staying with tonight?" - it's an apt question to ask at a time when so many of us scroll for hours through our social media feeds filled with wanderlust dreaming of places we'd like to stay around the world. The In Bed With site and Instagram account are a gorgeous collection of images shot by Rhiannon during her travels and provide travel inspiration not only for where to stay, but also for new destinations to visit around the globe. We caught up recently with Rhiannon, and below you'll find the details of our chat: Nude by Nature (NBN): Can you share with us more about your background, your photography career, social media strategy and the decision to start your beautiful travel and lifestyle blog In Bed With. Rhiannon: I’ve been a photographer for over 12 years, shooting interiors, travel, food and lifestyle for publications and brands near and far. Throughout my career I’ve been lucky enough to travel extensively and this was really the inspiration to start In Bed With. I adore great interior design and have a huge love of travel, so curating hotels in to a blog just felt like a natural fit. To be honest, I started In Bed With as an offshoot to my work as a photographer, documenting beautiful hotels whilst on assignment photographing for my clients. But the social media aspect took off quickly because the audience was so interested to see inside beautiful hotels around the world. What started as a creative hobby soon turned into a full time project. Nude by Nature (NBN): In the past 12 months you’ve been all over the world! Can you share your favourite destinations from the past year? Rhiannon: There are honestly too many to name - both for the blog and for my clients. But my favourite from this year was renting a villa called L’Arancera Di Villa Grabau in Lucca (Northern Tuscany), Italy for a week with friends and family for my wedding. It was so relaxing, with great food, wine and cooking classes. And of course getting married! I also just returned from Yucatan in Mexico, which was unbelievable. Unlimited guacamole, colourful towns, incredible beaches and beautiful hotels. Nude by Nature (NBN): Do you have any favourite beauty hacks that you use when you’re travelling? Rhiannon: I keep a mist and facial oil stored in every suitcase and handbag when I travel. Keeping my skin hydrated is key - this makes me feel normal. Planes have a funny habit of making you feel yuck! I also carry a bunch of natural cleansing wipes - often I’m flying for 20 hours plus and these are great in lieu of a shower. Nude by Nature (NBN): What do you think are a couple of the most important beauty products that every woman should own? Rhiannon: A great sunscreen. As a traveller and someone who loves the Australian sun, it’s essential to protect against the premature ageing effects of sun damage. I also can’t live without a great cleanser (I often double cleanse), to get rid of impurities, pollution etc from the day. Do you think people are educating themselves more these days about what's in the make-up they use, and are looking to new beauty products to use instead? Rhiannon: Yes! I recently overhauled my whole beauty regime to go completely natural and clean. As a woman who is obsessed with skincare and make-up, this was really difficult. But considering how many products we use on a daily basis, I became petrified of the amount of chemicals I was smothering all over my pores and washing down my sink into the ocean. I think there’s been a great shift in the way we purchase beauty products now and I hope with more education using natural products will become the norm. Nude by Nature (NBN): With the above in mind, are you able to share which is your favourite Nude by Nature make-up essential? Rhiannon: I adore the Natural Mineral Cover Foundation. Rhiannon: I’m terrible at remembering quotes however someone once told me “Be kind, in everything that you do and to everyone you meet”. I think this applies to both work and home for me. Nude by Nature (NBN): What about places you’ve got on your travel bucket list? Rhiannon: I’m dying to explore Alaska to see the wildlife and landscape. I’d love to do an island holiday to the Seychelles too - it’s a dream destination for me. Nude by Nature (NBN): Has there been a place you’ve visited in the past few years that has really surprised you? Rhiannon: I was really surprised by Cape Town in South Africa. I think it is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Likewise with Istanbul I visited a few months ago. Talk about wow! Stunning architecture, food, people - I was only there for two days and I’m plotting a way to get back soon! Nude by Nature (NBN): When you are back home in Melbourne, what are a couple of your most loved places/things to do? Rhiannon: First and foremost I try to soak up as much time as possible with my husband and family. When I travel I’m constantly exploring and eating out, so when I’m home I like to cook a lot. I love the Mornington Peninsula and pop down frequently to have lunch at Pt Leo Estate, taste wine at Crittenden Estate and stay at Jackalope or The Summer Residence. Nude by Nature (NBN): Lucky last question! What are your plans for 2019? Anything you can share with us? Rhiannon: There are so many things planned for 2019! A few incredible trips but also the launch of a select collection of fine art prints that I’ve taken from all over the world. The Best Coachella Make-up Looks
Coachella weekend one is done and dusted, and weekend two is just about to start. When it comes to Coachella, we all love to check out the amazing make-up and fashion looks people create. The make-up looks created in years gone by, and already in 2018 have generally featured bold, shimmering eyes and highlighted cheekbones perhaps accentuated with a stroke of glitter. Alternatively, many this year are choosing to create a more natural look featuring bronzer and a nude lip. As well as the looks created by people attending the first weekend at Coachella, there was one person in particular who stole the show - Beyoncé! Her five custom made Balmain outfits designed by Olivier Rousteing were absolutely spectacular, and the French fashion house also outfitted her 200 backup dancers and musicians. It was noted by fans that Beyoncé even changed her nail colour during her epic set as well! Influencer Profile: Sally-Jo Hickey
This year we are proud to be sending a group of Australia and New Zealand’s top beauty influencers to Coachella - one of the world’s biggest music festivals. You’ll have front row seats as each share their favourite festival moments and looks during weekend one; 12-15th April, via their social media channels and hashtags including #nudebynatureatcoachella and #nudebynature. Sally-Jo Hickey, one of New Zealand’s favourite influencers is amongst the lucky ones heading off to Palm Springs for Coachella. Sally-Jo started publishing content to her YouTube channel whilst at university, and she posts about beauty, lifestyle and fashion on her channel. In addition to Sally-Jo, you’ll also be able to enjoy Coachella with Lauren Curtis, Chloe Morello, Kasey Rayton, Holly Phillips, Li-Chi Pan and Michelle Crossan. We recently chatted with Sally-Jo about Coachella, her plans for 2018, who she follows on social media and about her top beauty tips. Nude by Nature (NBN): What are you looking forward to most about your trip to Coachella? Sally-Jo: I’m so overwhelmed with excitement it’s hard to narrow it down to one thing. Overall, I’m most looking forward to making new memories with amazing friends! I’m so lucky to be travelling over with such friendly and down to earth girls. We have plenty of photo shoots and pool parties in store. I’m definitely going to pack my Polaroid camera so that we can look back on the trip for years to come! NBN: Are there any bands and performers that you definitely won’t miss? Sally-Jo: I’m a huge fan of R&B music and am really looking forward to Post Malone. Also the fact that The Weeknd is headlining is everything! I definitely couldn’t miss out on Eminem and Cardi B - they are both incredible rappers. NBN: What make-up styles are you thinking about creating at Coachella? Sally-Jo: Coachella is a glitter-friendly zone so I will definitely be packing all kinds of gems and loose glitters for some fun cheekbone make-up. In terms of the actual base products I am going to be looking to those that are long-wearing and reliable to ensure we make it through dancing in the desert heat! I’ll be definitely packing my Nude by Nature Pressed Mattifying Mineral Veil to keep any T-Zone shine at bay. NBN: Which beauty essentials do you pack every time you travel? Sally-Jo: Always, always a sunscreen or primer with SPF. Make-up products like Nude by Nature's Sheer Glow BB Cream that have SPF already included are ideal. I’ll also never travel without a hydrating lip balm and a mascara - that way I always look fresh plus feel nice and hydrated in all the air conditioning. NBN: We’d love to know what your favourite Nude by Nature products are, and why? Sally-Jo: One of my favourites would have to be the Contour Palette. The shades are so smooth and blendable! As a fairer-skinned individual contouring can be daunting but this palette is extremely user friendly and gives me popping cheekbones every time without fail. I also HAVE to give a shout-out to the Nude by Nature Mineral Brush - my first ever true love when it came to make-up brushes. I found it when I was 15, and still use it to this day! NBN: What do you think are a couple of the most important beauty products that every Aussie/NZ woman should own? Sally-Jo: Concealer and powder! I think a lot of women forget about completing their base after moisturiser and foundation/BB cream, they are out the door. Investing in a nice concealer and setting powder really does make all the difference in how your base will perform and last throughout the day. NBN: Have you spotted any beauty trends that you think are going to be really big in 2018? Sally-Jo: I personally believe that low-coverage make-up is going to make a comeback this year. 2017 was all about the full glam (matte face and blinding cheekbone highlight), and I’m noticing a lot more balance in this season’s runway make-up thus far. By the end of the year I think we will be seeing a more subtle overall glow on the skin along with a rise in glossy sheer lip and cheek colours. NBN: When you’re chilling out, what’s your favourite social media platform to scroll through? Sally-Jo: Without a doubt, Instagram. It’s so easy to interact with my followers through IG Stories and comments, plus I love supporting my fellow influencers and seeing what projects they are up to. Also, the ‘Explore’ page is like an intriguing black hole that is both engrossing and hard to escape! NBN: How about other blogs and social accounts / influencers that you follow and love? Sally-Jo: Of course, all the girls going to Coachella. For ALL of the pretty things, I love the accounts @coco_lottie and @xxayapink - they post beautiful pics of designer bags and cute Japanese flatlays. My current makeup crush is Allana from @Allanaramaa. She always has the most perfect dewy skin and lip colours. Current lifestyle crush is Alex from @hrhcollection - I adore her home decor taste. And, of course my cutest Insta crush of all is @mavisthetuxedocat - my fur baby!! Yes, I’m that crazy cat mum! NBN: Last question! Are you able to share any of your 2018 plans that you are super excited about? Sally-Jo: I have so many exciting videos and campaigns planned this year which I can’t share just yet. You’ll have to keep your eyes peeled! I can share that I will be doing some Vlogs at Disneyland which is extremely exciting for me! I have a great feeling that 2018 will be an incredible year. And sometimes I use the shade Bronze as a blush alternative.” Contour Palette “It’s so easy to contour with this Contour Palette for a matte and naturally contoured face, especially when using the Ultimate Perfecting Brush. The shades are really flattering for light to medium skin tones, I use this palette nearly everyday!” Final Thoughts “I tried out a lot of products and I have to say I pretty much like all of them! Since then, Nude by Nature became an integral part of her daily routine. Keep reading to see her favourite products and first impressions of the Nude by Nature Eye Collection and her go-to natural make-up look. Josie’s daily make-up routine is a delicate every-day natural look focusing on neutral tones and accentuating the natural contours of the face which is a perfect match for the Eye Collection: “I especially like the fact that the colour palette of the products is inspired by the nature of Australia: bright blue sky, warm natural shades and shimmering sand.” Her favourite product from the collection is the Natural Wonders Eyeshadow Palette which she uses to take her delicate day make-up look during the day to a glamorous evening look for the night. “I also like the Shimmering Sands Loose Eye Shadow. The shimmering pigments allow the eyes to shine and are easily applied.” Get The Josie Look Step 1: Brighten Your Base Bring out the intensity of your eyeshadow by applying the Shimmering Sands Loose Eye Shadow in the shade 01 White Sand all over the eyelid using the sponge applicator or Base Eyeshadow Brush. Josie’s Tip: Swatch some of the product on the back of your hand before application to minimise the fallout. Step 2: A Touch Of Rose Apply the Shimmering Sands Loose Eyeshadow in 03 Rose Sand in the centre of the lid Step 3: Contour The Crease Select a darker shade from the Natural Wonders Eye Palette and blend this along your crease with the Blending Brush. The colour you choose from the palette will depend on your desired intensity, for a more natural look, we recommend selecting a colour that matches your eyebrows or your hair tone. Step 4: Line The Eyes Using the Angled Eyeliner Brush, take the same deeper shade and line your top and bottom eye line. Step 5: Highlight Using the Blending Brush, apply the lightest shade from the Nude Eyeshadow Trio Palette to highlight the brow bone, cheekbones and along the nose for a naturally radiant look. Josie’s Tip: This highlight shade can also be applied on the cupid’s bow of your lips to make them appear fuller. Step 6: Line & Define Line the eyes with the Contour Eye Pencil in 03 Rainforest, focusing on the lower waterline to create a subtle blend towards your eye line. Finally, define the eyes with the Definition Eyeliner in Brown to bring the look together. Josie’s Tip: The Natural Illusion Pressed Eyeshadows can also be used to define your eyebrows. Liv is a UK based Beauty Blogger with a passion for writing and photography. Liv was first introduced to Nude by Nature through a Contour & Highlight Masterclass and has since been crazy about Australia’s number one mineral make-up brand since. Keep reading to see her in-depth review of some of her favourite make-up brushes from the Pro Brush Collection. Pro Brush Collection Review The first thing that caught Liv’s attention was the rose gold packaging of the make-up products and the chrome and matte brown handles of the make-up brushes. “I have to say Nude by Nature totally nailed when it comes to their packaging. They are a joy to behold and to use and I feel super fly whenever I use them. I know it is very silly but I just feel really happy whenever I use them.” Beyond the luxe packaging, Liv was glad to be using 100% cruelty-free brushes that were “really fluffy but also offer good control”. Every Nude by Nature brush is made of ultra-soft high quality synthetic fibres suitable for both beginners and make-up experts with the additional benefits of being more durable, hygenic and hypo-allergenic. Concealer Brush The Concealer Brush is one of the most reached for brushes in Liv’s brush collection. “I use it with quite a few products and in different ways. I use it for pin point concealing and it works so well because it picks up the right amount of concealer. It also blends out nicely with as little waste as possible and I love that about it. I actually use it mainly for my eyeshadow because it has a beautiful flat shape which picks up eyeshadows or pigments so well and deposits it even better.” Liv also shared her insider tip of using the Concealer Brush to apply and blend the Touch of Glow Highlight Stick as an eyeshadow base or highlighter. The multi-purpose nature of the Concealer Brush is what makes it a front-runner in Liv’s brush collection. Pointed Precision Brush The Pointed Precision Brush has been created to get to the smaller areas when using liquid and powder formulas on the face. However, in the past Liv hasn’t had much like with similar shaped brushes and was hesitant to try the Pointed Precision Brush: “I always avoid brushes with this shape because I never find them effective for what I want. However, I was so happy to be proved wrong” Liv tested the Pointed Precision Brush with multiple make-up formulas including the Liquid Mineral Concealer and Touch of Glow Highlighter Sticks: “I prefer to use it for concealer. It is the perfect size for under my eyes and it fits in so well. The bristles do not irritate my under eye and it just blends out my concealer so well.” She used the brush in both sweeping and patting motions to blend and finished her look by using the pointed end of the brush to rid of any eyeshadow fall-out or eyeliner smudges which “worked like a dream” Ultimate Perfecting Brush Last but not least, The Ultimate Perfecting Brush was Liv’s favourite brush of the collection. “I only use this brush for one thing and that’s contouring and it’s one of the best contouring brushes I have tried. The bristles are short, fluffy and have a good deal of control which is essential to get the perfect contour angle. I believe Becca has a similar brush to this but I have not tried it yet so I can’t compare although I do think they have a similar quality.” The unique horizontal design and dense bristles of the Ultimate Perfecting Brush makes it the perfect brush for contouring and adding depth and definition to your face. The short handle also makes it easy to control it with the palm of your hand for the perfect application with even the most pigmented of powders.
