CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF NATURAL BEAUTY

Nude by Nature was created 10 years ago in Sydney. We're proud this year to be celebrating a decade of natural beauty and our Australian heritage. We continue to deliver 100% naturally derived and cruelty-free make-up. Last week we hosted a celebration brunch at the iconic Bondi Icebergs Club in Sydney, with a group of friends of the brand; including make-up artists, beauty editors, writers, celebrities and influencers all toasting our birthday. The event was MC'd by the gorgeous Jesinta Franklin who shared that one of her first brand ambassadorships was with Nude by Nature.  Jesinta Franklin & Max May  We're thrilled that a decade on from when the brand was created, we continue to be Australia's No. 1 Mineral Make-up brand. From everyone in the Nude by Nature team, we're sending out a MASSIVE THANK YOU for all your love and support in the last 10 years. Australia's No.1 Selling Cosmetic Product

Image courtesy of: @y.a.t.r.i One of the first make-up products we launched 10 years ago was our Natural Mineral Cover Foundation. It soon became a firm favourite in Australia, and today it continues to be Australia's No.1 Selling Cosmetic Product*. We're very proud of this amazing foundation, and it is regarded as being a daily staple for so many who love how easy it is to use, it's non-drying formula and lightweight feel on the skin.  As Jesinta Franklin told us about the Natural Mineral Cover in this blog post, "I love the Nude by Nature Natural Mineral Cover Foundation for everyday wear. It provides just enough coverage over your moisturiser, yet is lightweight and perfect for an off duty look."  The Natural Mineral Cover Foundation adapts naturally to skin tones, evens out complexion, covers redness and pigmentation, and conceals enlarged pores. The two key ingredients are Jojoba Esters known to nourish the skin and soothing Kaolin Clay which is great for absorbing excess oil. Depending on the look you're creating, it delivers sheer to full coverage for a satin radiant finish, with another benefit being SPF 15 protection. One of the great things about the Natural Mineral Cover Foundation is that it's a great foundation for creating day or night make-up looks. It's perfect to use for example if you're after a quick, natural make-up look for the day, or go for a full coverage look with a bold eye, highlighter and lip such as our Creamy Matte Lipstick for an evening out.     If you're after a couple of Natural Mineral Cover application tips, we recently created this How To video with make-up artist Anya Spicer:   We're also loving these looks all created with the Natural Mineral Cover Foundation: Images courtesy of L->R: @heidimoustafa, @kimdaoblog, @teegly Are you a fan of the Natural Mineral Cover Foundation? INFLUENCER PROFILE - KELSEY HEINRICHS

Gorgeous Kelsey Heinrichs is a London based Aussie creative, photographer, graphic designer, blogger and founder of the Creative Gal Gang community. You'll find her on Instagram under the @kelseyinlondon handle, and it won't take long to figure out that she also loves to travel!  We caught up recently with Kelsey, and you can read what we chatted about below: Nude by Nature (NbN): We’d love to hear more about your professional background, and the work you do in a Creative Director and graphic design capacity. Kelsey: I’m a freelance Graphic Designer and previously worked as a Creative Director in fashion. My creative skills go hand in hand with my blogging and there’s nothing more satisfying than making my clients visions come to life whether that be a logo design or a photography campaign. NbN: Are you able to share more about Creative Gal Gang; how it started and its purpose. Kelsey: I founded Creative Gal Gang when I first moved to London all the way from dusty old Australia. At first I found it quite daunting to start again in a new city where I knew no-one in the creative and blogging industry. After I'd initially made some fellow blogger friends, I thought it would be amazing to create a community that connected creative females who often worked alone. No matter what stage you’re at in your career or creative hobby, we’re all on the same journey and it’s important to remember that. NbN: As an Australian who has moved across to the UK, are you able to let us know what you’re noticing are the key differences in your beauty regime, and products that you’re using in the UK that aren’t necessarily as important in Australia. Kelsey: Since moving to the UK I’ve noticed I have to use a lot more products and pay extra attention to exactly what I’m using. The water is incredibly hard in London compared to Australia, therefore I’ve installed a filter on my shower otherwise the pollution is harsh on my skin and hair. The lack of sun and warm weather in the UK means having to take vitamin D tablets and using more hydrating serums and moisturisers. NbN: Have you noticed any beauty or fashion trends that you think are going to be big in the next 12 months? Kelsey: Self-care and sustainability! Less is more is definitely on the rise again in both beauty and fashion with minimal make-up looks and making a conscious effort to wear less fast-fashion. I’ve been seeking more thought out fashion purchases, buying quality investment pieces I will love for years to come. Self-care is so important and a lot of that can relate to your beauty regime, and what makes you feel beautiful. NbN: Speaking of beauty do you have a favourite Nude by Nature product, and why?  Kelsey: The Touch of Glow Highlight Stick in the shade Champagne because it makes me feel super fancy and gives such an extra glow to my make-up look. NbN: Do you have any favourite daily beauty hacks? Kelsey: Papaw Ointment on just about everything. Us Aussies know! NbN: How about beauty hacks for when you’re travelling? Kelsey: When I’m travelling I always want to spend less time on my make-up and more time drinking cocktails by the beach, so I’ll usually just whack on some BB cream, mascara and lipstick to feel a bit more put together and then head out the door. NbN: It looks like you love to explore the world, and travel to incredible destinations! Where are you planning on heading to in the next 6-12 months? Kelsey: I’ve got a trip coming up to Egypt which I’m incredibly excited about! I’ll also be going back home to Australia as I aim to go back every six months to see my family and friends, and enjoy a cheeky bit of sunshine. NbN: How are you finding living in London? Do you have any favourite places that you have loved discovering? Kelsey: Living in London - there’s endless things to do and see. I love sharing my favourite finds on Instagram under #KelseyinLondonSpots. Though one of my favourite places is definitely Broadway Market on a Saturday. There are so many cool shops, pubs and restaurants on that street and you can’t beat grabbing a beer and walking up to London Fields on a sunny day. NbN: Last question! What are your plans for the next 12 months? Anything exciting that you can share with us? Kelsey: I’m planning on moving out to a new place where I can focus on my interior styling and photography which is a big passion of mine, and will hopefully be a good segue into releasing my own product line. Stay tuned!   All images courtesy of Kelsey Heinrichs.

Supporting Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation

Late last year, Nude by Nature donated to the wonderful Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation, and this entailed supporting their 2018 ‘12 Days of Christmas’ campaign. We were thrilled to be able to donate not only financially, but also to volunteer at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. In December, during the campaign period, a group of our Sydney team spent a day at the Hospital, and we thoroughly enjoyed supporting the Foundation team with all of their Christmas activities created to entertain and engage children, families and staff during the 12 Days of Christmas, plus to discover more about the incredible medical research taking place in the Hospital and how this is helping many children around Australia. Whilst at the Hospital the Nude by Nature team helped by setting up a gaming grotto plus an arts & crafts table for kids to use, wrote letters from Santa, and gave out presents to children throughout the day as well. It was a wonderful and unforgettable experience for us to be part of. The Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation supports five organisations who are part of the Sydney Children's Hospital Network. This includes the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Bear Cottage, The Newborn and Paediatric Emergency Transport Service plus Kids Research. The Foundation specifically provides funds for the vital clinical care that children (across the five organisations within the network) need, thereby giving them the best treatment and hospital experience possible. In addition, as the Nude by Nature team discovered the Foundation also invests in research for future ground-breaking treatment. Everyone from the Nude by Nature team were taken on a tour of certain areas of the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick and saw the extraordinary artworks of the Art Program that the Foundation runs as well. Throughout the Hospital stunning, colourful artworks of all shapes and sizes provide a positive environment to reassure, relax and bring happiness to all the kids, families and staff who are there each day. The Art Program also includes a rotating exhibition of selling shows created by independent and emerging artists. Exhibition openings are open to the public as the Hospital is a registered art gallery, with funds raised going back into the Hospital and to support local artists.   As part of our donation towards the ‘12 Days of Christmas’ campaign, the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation were able to purchase much needed equipment for sick and injured children including two life-supporting ventilators for the Intensive Care Unit, an ultrasound system, an ultrasound probe and a paediatric colonoscope. Everyone at Nude by Nature is really proud to support the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation. If you’d like to donate to the Foundation click HERE.

INFLUENCER PROFILE - RACHEL BARWICK

Adelaide native Rachel Barwick made the life changing decision to leave her teaching job at the beginning of 2016, and to spend six months in a caravan with her partner travelling up the east coast of Australia. It has led to many incredible travel experiences taken around the world since, and an ever growing following on her Instagram account, @life.with.three.  We caught up with Rachel recently, and below you can read more about what we discussed: Nude by Nature (NbN): First up, we have to ask, do you have a favourite Nude by Nature product, and why? Rachel: I have always had dry lips, no matter how much water I drink daily, so I absolutely love the Creamy Matte Lipsticks. They are super moisturising but have more of a soft matte finish. The colour pigments are beautiful too, and so easy to apply! I also really love the Natural Wonders Eye Palette. I don't usually wear a lot of bright colour so these neutral tones are perfect for bronze looks.  NbN: Are you able to share your personal story with us, especially around your career progression, and about what you’re doing these days. Rachel: From an early age, I have had a passion for travel and the excitement that comes with discovering something new. My love for travel was epitomised by me walking away from my job with my partner (@caravandan) at the start of 2016, packing my bags and embarking on a six month caravan trip up the east coast of Australia. Our love of both travel and photography had us quickly absorbed in the world of Instagram, which served as the perfect medium for us to share our experience with our family back home and a growing number of like-minded travel enthusiasts. The diversity of our photography and the strong following that ensued attracted the attention of a range of different brand collaborations, which has opened the door for us to continue ticking new items off our bucket list. Each destination holds a new story and this is something we always try to capture within our photos. NbN: In your wildest dreams five years ago did you think that you’d be doing what you are in 2019, in terms of your career? Rachel: Before my partner and I embarked on our six month trip up the east coast of Australia I had finished my teaching degree and had been relieving for a year. It was only on our journey that we started sharing our travels on Instagram and people started joining in on our passion for travelling Australia in a van. I am so thankful for what Instagram has opened up for us in terms of travel and also the beautiful Australian brands that I get to work with.  NbN: For any up and coming photographers and content creators, do you have any words of wisdom with regards to forging a successful career. Rachel: I would always suggest to keep true to your own personal style and editing and don't let the pressure of Instagram change that. In saying this, don't be afraid of change if you want to, it's how we grow! NbN: Do you have any tips for maintaining a beauty regime when you’re on the road travelling?  Rachel: My everyday beauty regime is super simple so I don't usually have to change too much for when we travel - I’m very low maintenance! I suggest taking products that travel easily, and that are lightweight. I usually take a refreshing rose toner for hydrating on the go, a nourishing serum - this can double as a moisturiser when you're in humid tropical locations and a moisturiser that you can use for face and body! I also use my Nude by Nature Sunkissed Pressed Bronzer for colour, eyes and highlighting. The less products, the better. NbN: You spend lots of time travelling each year. Do you find it tough when you’re away from home to be consistent in terms of wellness and exercise? Rachel: When Dan and I travel we are always on the go, so to be honest I'm probably working out more when we’re away than when I'm at home. What makes travelling hard for me is being away from my fur babies! NbN: Are you able to share a few of your favourite Instagram accounts, that you love to follow, and why.  Rachel: I love following @teganphillipa - she is so authentic and positive and really makes you want to celebrate your own uniqueness. @sivanayla has so many amazing ideas for food, fashion and home styling. I also love following @officiallyquigley - she radiates positivity in all her posts in a real and true way.  NbN: What are a few of the top destinations on your personal travel bucket list? Rachel: I am so excited that early next year my partner and I will be travelling to Thailand for the first time! This has been on our bucket list for such a long time so we are really looking forward to this trip. We don't usually book trips this far ahead but the opportunity came about and we just had to take it. I would also love to visit the US west coast and India. NbN: In the past 12 months, what are a couple of places that you visited that really surprised you, and why.  Rachel: Last August while we were in Europe we visited Mykonos and I had no idea that it was such a party island! I absolutely loved the divine little backstreets made up of blue and white so we got up super early to enjoy these on our own in the mornings whilst everyone was asleep. Another place which also surprised me was Malta. It honestly has some of the bluest crystal waters you will ever see! However, it was heartbreaking to see a lot of rubbish, in the water and also in the streets.  NbN: Home for you is Adelaide in South Australia. Are you able to let us know about a couple of your favourite places you recommend every visitor goes to.   Rachel: It’s no surprise that I love the beach and my favourite little spot in SA is called Southport Beach. The view from the top of the cliffs down the coast is always impressive, no matter what time of year it is. I would also recommend Blanche Point, Port Willunga and just close by is McLaren Vale. NbN: Do you have an inspirational or motivational quote that you love, and if so, are you able to share it with us. Rachel: Look for something positive in each day, even if on some days you have to look a little harder.  Thank you, Rachel! All images courtesy of: Rachel Barwick

How To Shoot Beauty Products In Social Media Images

Do you like sharing images of your favourite beauty products to your personal social media channels? With billions of posts being shared to social media networks every day, the visual element of that content is key, so we thought it was a nice idea to share a few useful tips in particular for how to take a great image incorporating beauty products. There is quite an art to taking beautiful images that include cosmetic products, and the below tips have been created for anyone who is interested in developing their personal social media style and would like to create eye catching, engaging content. The tips include examples of great social media photography featuring our good for you make-up collection. We are committed to delivering make-up made with 100% natural ingredients and formulated without unnecessary chemicals, synthetic ingredients or preservatives often found in cosmetics. Tip Number 1: Before you start taking any photos, make sure your phone or camera lens is clean! Below are our tips that you can use for your social media photography: Consistency: Work towards creating a consistent, unique style for your images and social media accounts - think about it as being your own personal brand. That way, anyone who follows you will immediately recognise that you’ve published that specific piece of content. This includes: Filters - either via your smartphone camera or photography apps   How much you edit an image Content themes Exposure Saturation Colour vs. black & white Images courtesy of: @melhwang & @nourish_naturally Lighting: Definitely one of the most important elements of your photo. Natural light is always the best; especially at sunrise or sunset. If you’re shooting inside (without lighting equipment) where possible shoot close to a window, and try to avoid: Too much artificial lighting Shadows, darkness and unwanted reflections Images courtesy of: @nattdesu & @y.a.t.r.i Frame & Composition: Here your aim is to draw the viewer’s eye and focus to the subject of your image, such as a bottle of foundation. Photographers generally work to a rule of thirds in terms of alignment when shooting images, however you’ll also notice these days that social images quite often feature the subject in the centre of the image. A few tips we have regarding composition are: Many people like to use the grid line feature on their smartphones to line up the subject in their photo. This feature makes taking photos much easier! Remember when you’re uploading images to social channels that the frame can be smaller than your original, so shoot images with that in mind Rather than zooming in too much when taking the photo, instead crop the image when you’re editing it Shoot your photo or video in landscape or portrait, depending on the social channel you’re uploading it to When shooting, take a few different angles, to give you multiple options to choose as the final image to use Images courtesy of: @itsmotherland & @jestem_kasia Product Visibility: When you’re including beauty products in your images, make sure the product is: Visible and not too small That the product and brand name is clear Packaging is clean and doesn’t have fingerprints all over it If a product has a mirror, check for reflections Images courtesy of: @erisa__kurti & @jacksteel_au Your Look - If your images include before & after shots of yourself (or friends, models) with products applied, you’re demonstrating how to use a product, or you are holding a product, it’s important to make sure: Your image style is consistent It’s clear what type of look you’ve created (for example ‘Date Night Look’) If your hands are in frame - make sure fingernails are clean and nail polish isn’t chipped Image background is simple If you’re demonstrating how a product looks on your skin, make sure that is the focus of the image Try to avoid shadows and stripes of light running across your face If you’re featuring complexion products like foundation or concealer, make sure the shade you use is correct Images courtesy of: @xoxotsumi @lillehoang & @ashleighhuynh Don’t Take Things Too Seriously - Always be yourself, and don’t change your own personal style to adapt to what you think is going to get you more Likes. Be authentic, and have fun. Images courtesy of: @teegly & @signecatseyes Tag Your Favourite Brand - Don’t be afraid to tag a brand if you’ve used their products in your post. It’s a great way to be discovered, and regrammed by a brand that you really love. It may also lead to you being selected by that brand to collaborate with them in the future. Are there any tips you think are missing? Let us know.

VOGUE WILLIAMS SHARES HER LOVE FOR NATURAL MAKE-UP

We're thrilled to have formed an ambassador partnership with Vogue Williams in the UK. The gorgeous TV presenter, DJ and model, 33, recently sat down to discuss her love for natural make-up and why cleaning up her beauty routine since having her first child, Theo, with TV star Spencer Matthews has been so important. She also shared more about her experience of adult acne, how she creates fuller lips and her love of daily exercise. Read our chat below: Nude by Nature (NbN): What attracted you to Nude by Nature? Vogue: What attracted me most was that the products are made with 100% natural ingredients. Nude by Nature is a beautiful make-up brand with the best nude lip liners and lipsticks. My favourite lip product is probably the Moisture Infusion Lipgloss in Bare 01. Now that I have a baby I do think more about what I’m putting on my skin because he’s always touching my face and puts his mouth on my chin. I only started thinking about that recently. I eat healthily, I have a good skincare routine, and then I was putting any old make-up on my face. I thought why am I not thinking about the make-up I put on my face when I look after it so well with my skincare products? Now, with Nude by Nature, I know that what I’m putting on my skin is really good and long-lasting. It’s beautiful make-up that’s good for you. Moisture Infusion Lipgloss NbN: Did it surprise you that it’s so natural but also efficacious? Vogue: I don’t like spending hours and hours on my make-up - I don’t have the time. This morning, my make-up took 20 minutes. The quality of the Nude by Nature products is excellent, and they’re quick and easy to use. You only have to apply concealer, the Natural Mineral Cover Foundation all over your face and you have a gorgeous base - done. I used to worry that powder foundation would look cakey, you don’t want that look with make-up at all, however this powder doesn’t look like that at all. Natural Mineral Cover Foundation I’ll wear Nude by Nature to the gym and it will stay on my face. Either I’m not working hard enough, or it’s really good! It’s great to have products that work plus you know are good for your skin. NbN: Which Nude by Nature products will you not be able to live without now? Vogue: The lipsticks, the lip liners, the lipgloss - I love them all! There’s also the gorgeous Soft Focus Illuminator - you can mix it into your primer, plus the Beach Glow Liquid Highlighters are amazing. They look like a lipgloss, and are especially good on the inside of your eyes; they wake you up. They set fast so you do need to work with them quickly, however they are very cool. NbN: For someone new to the brand which product do you recommend they try first? Vogue: I know the hero product is the Natural Mineral Cover Foundation but I really love the Flawless Liquid Foundation. I think if you look at a new make-up brand a good way to judge them is with the foundation. The Nude by Nature Flawless Liquid Foundation is fab; it’s a liquid and a lot of people use liquid. Although, I do think the powder is very handy, and if you want to do a quick make-up look, then the Natural Mineral Cover Foundation is the one for you. Flawless Liquid Foundation NbN: What is your AM/PM skincare routine? Vogue: At night, I take off all my make-up, I use different cleansers - right now I’m using one called Skin Theory. I love IMAGE products, Dermalogica, and Neostrata has amazing products. I have a Lancer cleanser that’s amazing too. There is a girl in Ireland called the Skin Nerd and she sent me this make-up remover mitt, it’s a face cloth that gets your mascara, everything off. I double cleanse and then I use the mitt and you’re not left with any residue. Then, I put on a serum, face cream and eye cream. In the morning I would apply serum and day cream with SPF. Always, always SPF. NbN: Are there any make-up tips you’ve picked up since working in show business? Vogue: I love over-lining my lips. Literally over the top line of your top lip with a nude shade that matches your lip colour. Then, colour your lips in with the pencil. It looks like you have an extra millimetre on your lips, and they do look bigger. Don’t go overboard though as it may look a bit crazy, but I do love over-lining my lips. NbN: How did having acne change your approach to beauty? Vogue: It was an absolute nightmare. I got a contraceptive bar in my arm and my skin just went crazy. I had these huge spots all over my face and where there wasn’t the huge spots there were these little bumps under my skin. I switched up my entire skincare routine. I went to this place called Renaissance Clinic in Howth, Dublin and they did different facials on me. There are certain facials you can’t get done with acne because it can cause it to spread even more. Then they put me on IMAGE products: Clear Cell Salicylic Cleanser, Ormedic Balancing Antioxidant Serum and a mattifying moisturiser at night, then the serum during the day and day cream, just those products. I was relentless with that routine, and good at getting soothing facials as my skin was sore and it did eventually go. I also heard not having dairy helps your skin, so I tried to give up dairy for a while but I realised I couldn’t live without it. I drink pints of milk, so I was just really religious with my skincare routine, but it did take ages to clear up. I was very  self-conscious, I’d never had acne before. I remember once my friend did my make-up and it took an hour and a half to do my base - it usually took 45 minutes to do everything. It was a nightmare, and it really knocks your confidence. Everyone has things that make them feel less confident. I still have things that make me feel self-conscious. I probably come across like I’m bursting with confidence but I don’t think anybody is, we all have our things, especially women. I feel like we’re so judged on social media, everyone is, and things are pointed out as a flaw and you focus on that. It can be a nightmare. NbN: Before Nude by Nature had you been looking to clean up your routine? Vogue: If you don’t know where to start, start off with your skincare routine. You always look after your skin - you wouldn’t go to bed with dirty skin, or put just anything on your skin. And, the same should apply for your make-up. If you look at Nude by Nature you know all the products work, and they are made with 100% natural ingredients that you would want to use. Even with SPF, I have to have SPF 50 on my face; in the winter or even if I’m not going out it is on my face, it just has to be. NbN: You try to lead a healthy lifestyle. What exercise do you do, and do you enjoy things like meditation? Vogue: No meditation, I’m not a meditator. I do yoga on the odd occasion; I do quite like power yoga. I like training and training really hard. When I am in the gym and I’m training I’m only focused on training, nothing else runs through my mind, so it’s kinda like my time to meditate. I get into that mindset because if I’m training really hard I’m just focused on getting through it. I see my PT, Dalton Wong, he is amazing. I go to BoomCycle and Kobox, I go to loads of different things, I mix it up so I don’t get bored. I play tennis. I went horse riding yesterday. I’ve always been sporty and active and that’s what Spencer and I like doing. We don’t really go out, we never go to nightclubs, you’ll rarely see us in pubs. I’d rather spend my money on a personal trainer or tennis lessons and things like that. It’s a hobby and Spencer and I do it together. Theo will definitely be playing tennis once he gets a bit older!  I grew up in a little seaside village, where I still live, and it’s a very outdoorsy, active lifestyle. Don’t get me wrong, I love sitting inside and doing nothing but I have to get out every day. I have a dog, who is actually Australian, he was born in Sydney and I brought him home, so I walk him daily. NbN: You have been to Australia. How does Australian beauty differ to the UK? Vogue: I think that Australians are more natural with what they put on their face. You don’t see too many dark smoky eyes. I would say they do more of a natural look for sure. They have the sun all the time, so they will be conscious of their skin and SPF. But I think we’re getting better at that over here. Everyone is looking at their skin routine now and making sure they're looking after their skin.  SHOP OUR GOOD FOR YOU MAKE-UP COLLECTION

You can read our full conversation below:  Nude by Nature (NbN): We’d love to hear more about your professional background, and about the beginnings of your online magazine, Gritty Pretty.  Eleanor: After graduating high school, I was accepted into two universities — but I decided to fast-track my career to study a two-year journalism degree at Macleay College, Sydney. It was my dream to work at a publication, so I routinely emailed my favourite magazines seeking internship opportunities. I got my break at Cosmopolitan magazine where I was mentored by Zoë Foster Blake, who opened my eyes to the world of beauty editorial. From there, I was made the youngest-ever beauty editor in Australia at FAMOUS, and my final job in print was Beauty Editor at InStyle. I had started up a blog during this time which lay dormant for a few years—however once I was working as a freelance beauty writer, I saw the potential in blogs and digital, so I decided to take a massive gamble by throwing everything I earned as a freelancer into building Gritty Pretty. When I first created the site it was one of the first beauty blogs in Australia, and when we relaunched we were the first digital magazine in the country dedicated solely to beauty. Since then, I’m extremely proud that Gritty Pretty has grown from strength to strength thanks to my incredibly dedicated team. Image courtesy of: @eleanorpendleton NbN: What are your thoughts about online publishing versus traditional print, and their future? Eleanor: I think that there is a place for both digital and print publishing in our current media landscape. Coming from the world of magazines, I’ve always had a soft spot for traditional print—there’s something really special about turning the pages of a glossy magazine. However, there are so many affordances that digital publishing allows that print cannot—it allows us to be fast-moving, adaptive and flexible. It also means that we can be more accessible to our readers and reach a wider, beauty-obsessed audience. There’s a level of interactivity that Gritty Pretty Magazine can create that traditional print can’t create—video, gifs and the like that allow a fresh, engaging experience with beauty every time they turn the virtual page. NbN: What beauty products do you think every woman should own, and why? Eleanor: I love skincare, and think that every woman should have a good skin regimen in place—it’s the perfect way to take some time for yourself and ensure that your skin is getting what it needs. My skin loves ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, jojoba oil and rosehip oil; and an SPF is an everyday essential. When it comes to make-up, you can’t beat a great base that you can rely on to give even, radiant coverage all day long. I’m all about a dewy, glowing base, so an illuminator or highlighter is also a must-have! Image courtesy of: @eleanorpendleton NbN: We’re coming into the Winter months here in Australia. It would be great to hear of any beauty hacks that you have for the cooler months. Eleanor: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! It’s so easy to get dry, parched skin in the winter months not only from the drop in mercury, but the near-constant exposure to indoor heating which can really take its toll on your skin. I would say to use a hyaluronic serum both day and night, and look to build in hydration in every step of your regime—from cleanser, to mists and moisturisers to your foundation. I love adding a drop of face oil into my foundation during winter to combat dry skin. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water every day. NbN: Are you able to let us know who you love following on Instagram, and what you love about their content.  Eleanor: For me, Instagram is a great source of inspiration so I follow a number of stylists, bloggers and make-up artists whose work I love: @tylynnnguyen, @mathildegoehler, @anoukyve, @theapricotmemoirs, @nikkideroest, @namvo, @jenatkinhair, @marisahampe, @missarahglover, @stormibree and @rosiehw.  I love being entertained by the likes of @chrissyteigen and I’m inspired by women such as @jacindaardern. Oh, and who can forget @sussexroyal. Image courtesy of: @eleanorpendleton NbN: It seems like you love to travel (& really, who doesn’t!). Have you got any unforgettable destinations that you have visited in the last couple of years, and also are there any that you have on your current travel bucket list? Eleanor: Travelling is one of my favourite things to do and luckily I have had a few opportunities to do so over the last year. I went to South Africa, Iceland and had my wedding on Boracay Island in the Philippines just over a year ago, which was unforgettable in so many ways. It was such a beautiful location and will always be special to me due to all the precious memories made there. I recently came back from New Zealand for the second time, and am as in love as ever with the amazing landscape. On my bucket list at the moment is Sri Lanka, the landscape and beaches look beautiful, and I’m really keen to experience their cuisine and culture. NbN: Do you have any big goals that you’re hoping to achieve in the next 12 months, and are you able to let us know what they are? Eleanor: There’s a lot of exciting plans in the works that I unfortunately can’t reveal - all good things come to those who wait! The Gritty Pretty team are currently preparing to move to a larger office space later in the year, and are also organising this year’s One Night Only reader event, which is looking to be bigger and better than ever! Image courtesy of: @eleanorpendleton NbN: Final question! Do you have a favourite inspirational or motivational quote? Eleanor: “Style is about knowing who you are, what you want to say and not giving a damn.” Gore Vidal

What is A-beauty?

If you've watched a make-up tutorial on YouTube or Instagram recently, you'll know that in the beauty world there are unique terms and abbreviations for just about everything. Take for example; BB Cream, strobing, baking, MUA or the up and coming A-beauty. It can be tricky to keep on top of everything we're supposed to know when it comes to selecting and applying beauty products! If you've never heard the term A-beauty or would like to know more, this post is all about that very topic. K-beauty or Korean beauty has been on our radars for a few years, and involves the use of Korean beauty products and the creation of a long-term, personalised and multi-step skincare routine. A-beauty is the term for Australian beauty, and it's one that is being used globally to describe the uncomplicated approach to skincare, hair and make-up enjoyed by Aussies, plus when it comes to Australian beauty brands - products are loved for their high-performing formulas that often include native Australian ingredients plus their versatility and ease of use. Products by brands such as Lano, Frank Body, Zoe Foster Blake's Go-To, Jurlique, Miranda Kerr's Kora Organics or us, Nude by Nature are all sold around the world, and loved for being innovative, high quality and results focused.  When we were first created 10 years ago in Sydney, one of the key reasons was because Australians' were becoming more conscious in every aspect of their lives, about things like healthy eating, exercise and food labelling - this in turn knocked on to skincare and then make-up choices. The desire to avoid products which included toxins and harsh chemicals was growing. Every single ingredient within our make-up range has been carefully selected to deliver exceptional results including some of nature's most trusted ingredients possessing moisturising, anti-ageing and skin nourishing benefits to help perfect the complexion. Australia is home to an abundance of ‘superfood species’ unprecedented in efficiently storing vast quantities of Phyto-nutrients. Growing wild in isolated locations and undisturbed for centuries, these superfood species have developed complex adaption skills, and can store vast amounts of vital Phyto-nutrients needed to survive the extreme weather conditions; heat, drought, and high winds. This ability to survive and thrive in such harsh environments is considered the main contributing factor in why they contain such high levels of powerful antioxidants. One of these Australian ingredients is Kakadu Plum, known for its abundant Vitamin C content, strong antioxidant and anti-ageing properties. It grows wild across Australia’s north western wilderness in Western Australia where it is wild harvested by Aboriginal communities, is considered a gift of the Dreamtime by Aboriginal culture and has been used for centuries by Aboriginal communities as a vital food source and traditional medicine to treat skin conditions and ailments. Kakadu Plum gained worldwide recognition and modern ‘superfood’ status when it was discovered that the fruit has the highest recorded levels of natural Vitamin C content in the world, which is impressively 100 times that of oranges. Kakadu Plum We use Kakadu Plum in many of our products such as the Flawless Liquid Foundation, Flawless Concealer, Touch of Glow Highlight Stick and Allure Defining Mascara. Other examples of powerful native Australian ingredients used in our products include Cehami Extract, Desert Lime, Lilly Pilly and Quandong. Lilly Pilly We celebrate the 100% natural ingredients used in our make-up collection, and all of our products are formulated without synthetic ingredients or preservatives often found in cosmetics such as Silicone, Siloxanes, Phthalates, Sulphates, PEGS, Triclosan, Phenoxyethanol or Parabens, and do not contain Carmine, Talc or Bismuth Oxychloride. It's wonderful for Australian beauty products to be recognised on a global basis for all the positive aspects they provide, and we're proud to be part of such an awesome group of brands.  SHOP OUR NATURAL MAKE-UP COLLECTION

INFLUENCER PROFILE - MICHELLE CROSSAN

Image courtesy of Michelle Crossan We've collaborated a few times in the past year with beauty expert Michelle Crossan. These collaborations have included our Coachella partnership and the launch of our 100% Natural Lip Collection. Originally hailing from Ireland, Michelle has called Australia home for a few years now, and it's in Australia that she started her blog, followed by her YouTube channel featuring make-up tutorials, product reviews and get ready with me style vlogs.  We recently caught up with Michelle, and took the opportunity to ask her a few questions about her career, beauty and upcoming 12 months. Image courtesy of Michelle Crossan Read our chat below: Nude by Nature (NbN): We’d love to hear more about your professional background, including your move from your native Ireland to Sydney. Are you able to share your story with us? Michelle: I’ve worn so many hats in my career journey that didn’t make sense at the time, but have all led to my current skill set, passion, knowledge and love of the beauty blogging industry. I trained as a hairdresser and beauty therapist for two years after school, and then after a while moved on to an apprenticeship in the salon chain Toni and Guy. I loved hair, makeup, styling and product testing, but I found the client facing, treatment aspect of the industry didn’t fulfil me so I took a step back from beauty and began studying Science, specifically Toxicology - I’m a closet geek for all things science. I loved learning about all things science based and the human body, but soon began to realise that I wouldn’t be happy working in a science lab everyday, which is ultimately where such a degree would lead me. I made the difficult choice to step back from study and allowed myself to relax and find myself by working in retail for a few years. I knew it would be better to wait and see what I truly wanted to do than to jump into careers that wouldn’t make me happy in the long run. I worked for various retail companies after that which eventually led me to London where I fell in love with a Kiwi boy and decided to move to Australia with him. Once in Australia I began my written blog as a hobby to pass the time during a long stint of poor health that saw me hospitalised for a while. It was a very difficult and lonely time but I’m so glad it happened because it brought me to the incredible online beauty community. I loved trying and reviewing products and sharing my finds with other like minded girls. It gave me purpose and made me so happy. I just wanted to help other women feel their best, and help them spend their money wisely. I then moved on to learn more about photography and videography which I loved so I started my YouTube channel, and the rest is history! Image courtesy of Michelle Crossan NbN: When it comes to health and wellbeing, what are a few of your favourite, regular things that you love to do? Michelle: I go to the gym every single day whether it’s for a light stretching session, 10km on the bike or an intense weightlifting workout. I don’t plan it, I don’t time myself, I’m not there to be ‘thin’, I simply adore the mental clarity that going to the gym gives me. Making time each day for the mind / body connection is life changing. I’m a huge advocate of sleep and meditation too. If we deprive ourselves of enough rest and time to reflect, you’re asking for trouble! Nothing should stop you from prioritising your mental and physical wellbeing. NbN: What’s your favourite Nude by Nature product(s), and why? Michelle: The Moisture Shine Lipsticks have been a favourite of mine since I tried them on our trip to Coachella last year! Especially the nude shades! The shades are so flattering and versatile for everyday wear; whether you’re grabbing groceries or heading to a meeting. They have fab pigment but feel lightweight and nourishing on the lips so it’s like you’re just wearing a lip balm. They don’t need any maintenance during the day - I can easily re-apply mine in an Uber without a mirror which is 'total lippie goals'! Image courtesy of Michelle Crossan NbN: Do you have any time saving beauty hacks? Michelle: Use your fave nude lipstick from the Moisture Shine range as a cream blush when you’re in a rush. Saves on the brain power needed for choosing a blush shade on busy days! NbN: What beauty products do you recommend every woman owns? Michelle: I think every woman needs a great mascara, tinted brow gel and a light foundation that lets her skin and natural beauty shine through. These simple products enhance natural features without masking them, and you don’t need to be a makeup artist to apply them. Image courtesy of Jack Steel, shot at Coachella 2018 NbN: Are there any beauty or fashion trends that you’ve spotted that you think will be big in the next 12 months? Michelle: I love that the beauty industry is veering back towards fluffier brows and super glowy skin. Makeup doesn’t need to be super precise and technical to be beautiful. NbN: When it comes to social media, what is your favourite channel to scroll through when you’re chilling out? Michelle: I love YouTube! I rarely sit and watch it but I’m always listening to something in my headphones when I’m pottering around. Podcasts are great for on the go too! NbN: Do you have any favourite influencers, YouTubers or content creators that you religiously follow? If so, who are they? Michelle: I have sooo many people that I love to follow. It’s really hard to choose! I adore Allana Davison’s content right now though. She’s such a nice girl with an interesting range of content. She’s the girl you wanna be besties with! Image courtesy of Jack Steel, shot at Coachella 2018 NbN: It’s hard to believe that it’s already a year since you were in Coachella! We were so thrilled to be part of that trip, as the official Make-up Partner. What were a few of the highlights from Coachella for you? Michelle: I can’t believe it was a year ago! The whole trip was a highlight to be honest! I wouldn’t change a thing. We had a beautiful breakfast one morning in Palm Springs with Nude by Nature to chill and try new products, and I just remember sitting there in the sunshine, swatching gorgeous new products and thinking I was the luckiest girl in the world. NbN: What are you most looking forward to in the next 12 months? Michelle: Life is really good right now and I’m so excited about the future! I have a month long trip to Bali coming up that I’m really looking forward to so that I can create beautiful, new exciting content for my followers in a new environment. Michelle with good friend Steph Bailey, at the Nude by Nature 10th Birthday celebration, shot by Jack Steel NbN: Do you have a favourite motivational quote? If so, are you able to share it with us. Michelle: My latest fave is “She is not your competition. She is your sister.” NbN: Last question! Do you have any fave places in Sydney that you recommend visitors head to? Michelle: I recently discovered a gorgeous new restaurant in Glebe called The Charleston. They have yummy food, pretty cocktails, and the place is pink which makes for a perfect insta pic setting!

The Make-up Products We Can't Live Without

Ever wanted to take a peek inside your bestie's make-up bag, and ask them why they use certain products, plus whether they have any top hacks for creating amazing looks? Yep - you're not the only one!  We were talking about this very topic here at our HQ in Sydney, and it was interesting to discover more about our own favourite Nude by Nature products - what we use on a daily basis, why and how we create certain looks.  Take a read below about the good for you Nude by Nature products that we can't live without: Natural Mineral Cover Foundation: Natural Mineral Cover Foundation It's Australia's No.1 Selling Cosmetic Product* so it wasn't a surprise that we love the Natural Mineral Cover Foundation too! Lucile, our New Product Development Manager told us, "My fave by far is our Natural Mineral Cover. Why? It's the only foundation that doesn’t look like foundation, and that’s perfectly safe for sensitive skin. I have tried a thousand others and always come back to it". Or as Nikki, our Content & Production Manager shared, "it's just the easiest, quickest and best foundation for everyday use. Natural coverage and it feels like there’s nothing on my skin."  Did you know that one Natural Mineral Cover Foundation is sold every 100 seconds** in Australia? It's a statistic we're pretty proud of. This loose mineral powder foundation was one of the very first products that we released when we launched 10 years ago, and it's been a firm favourite for so many people ever since.  Emma, our Product Education Manager is a fan too saying, "It’s my favourite Nude by Nature product and I wear it every day! The coverage is so versatile - from a light dusting for a natural, even complexion to full coverage for beautifully flawless skin. Plus, it’s perfect for my problematic skin and never makes me breakout like a lot of conventional make-up has in the past." Or as Alli, our Regional POS Merchandising Manager - ANZ went on, "It's also definitely my favourite Nude by Nature product! It's just so light and easy to apply. It provides the right level of coverage, and feels so soft on my skin. It is almost like I’m wearing no make-up at all." Touch of Glow Highlight Stick: Touch of Glow Highlight Stick It's an easy to apply Highlight Stick that is versatile, and now available in four shades. The newest shade is 04 Opal, and it's exactly what you need for adding a luminous sheen and creating points of light on for example the cheekbones, nose and cupids bow. Eileen, our Office Manager let us know that she uses it every day, and her top tip is, "It always gives me a nice glow even if I’m tired and not feeling it. I just pop it on my cheekbones after my blush and dab it in lightly. It's so easy to use."  If you're someone who hasn't experimented much with highlighting, Alli told us, "I had never used a highlighter before so the Touch of Glow Highlight Stick was a huge discovery for me, and now I just can't live without it! It gives you this little touch of glow to finish your look. It is a versatile product that I use for contouring but also sometimes as an eyeshadow." Moisture Infusion Lipgloss: Moisture Infusion Lipgloss in shades 02 Peach Nude (L) & 08 Violet Pink (R) Our 100% Natural Lip Collection launched last September, and these cruelty-free lip products have fast become not only bestsellers across the globe but also loved for the shade range, look and comfortable feel on the lips.   About the Moisture Infusion Lipgloss, Jade our Ecommerce Manager ANZ said, "This is hands down the BEST lipgloss I've ever used. Moisturising, non-sticky, beautiful 'your lips but better' shades and it smells so good. I use multiple shades, although my fave is 08 Violet Pink." Alexa one of our Account Coordinators let us know that her favourite shade in the lipgloss is 02 Peach Nude. She shared, "I wear a lot of darker eye make-up and this is the perfect neutral shade without being too light or dark for my skin tone. I can build it up with the Defining Lip Pencil in 02 Blush Nude underneath if I want to intensify the colour, however I find that the colour and coverage is usually perfect on its own. I used to be a matte lipstick girl but after wearing this, I am honestly converted. My lips have never felt so hydrated." Emma added, "The gloss has these unique moisturising microspheres and always feels extremely moisturising, even when I have really dry lips. There’s a shade for every occasion, and I wear it every day as I love how it makes my lips look ‘full’ and feel hydrated." The Moisture Infusion Lipgloss is available in 10 shades, and the non-sticky texture is infused with active natural ingredients including nourishing Shea Butter, Vitamin E and the native Australian Kakadu Plum to help provide antioxidant defence.  Our Concealers: Flawless Concealer (L) & Liquid Mineral Concealer (R) When it came to concealers, there were votes for both our award-winning Flawless Concealer and also the Liquid Mineral Concealer.  Like all Nude by Nature products our concealers are made with 100% natural ingredients and cruelty-free. If you're more of a stick concealer person, then you'll love the Flawless Concealer like Nikki, who said of this award-winner, "Best concealer ever - couldn’t do without it. The one make-up item I would choose if I could only have one. Great coverage, silky texture and still feels light on the skin." Instead if you prefer a liquid concealer, you'll enjoy the Liquid Mineral Concealer, with Alli sharing, "This product is my best ally! It covers my dark circles and minimises skin imperfections. It is also really easy to apply using either my fingers or the concealer brush, and blends very easily. I use it every day." As Emma added, "It seamlessly conceals to brighten the eye area and easily adds a subtle touch of dewy highlight to the top of the cheekbones. I never used to use a concealer but now I use the Liquid Mineral Concealer nearly every day because I know the ingredients are actually good for my skin, especially floraesters which help fight fine lines around the eyes. I like to think of it as my daytime ‘eye cream’." Setting Powders: Mineral Finishing Veil (L) & Pressed Mattifying Mineral Veil (R) Have you tried our setting powders? You can choose between either the Mineral Finishing Veil, or the Pressed Mattifying Mineral Veil. Alexa is a fan of both of these products, explaining firstly of the Mineral Finishing Veil, "I honestly don’t know what I did with my life before I discovered our Mineral Finishing Veil. I use it every morning to bake under my eyes and over my concealer. I will also dust it all over my face because I have oily skin, and it keeps my shine at bay for a lot longer than any other product I’ve used. It doesn’t contain any talc or synthetics and doesn’t leave any flashback in photos. Best setting powder ever!". Jacqui our Marketing Coordinator agreed saying, "It sets my make-up beautifully and minimises shine". For touch ups during the day, Alexa has our Pressed Mattifying Mineral Veil, in her handbag, saying, "I carry this now instead of pressed foundation. I use it as a blotting powder, and its a more convenient way to control the shine (compared to the loose version) when I’m on the go!". There you go! That's a few of our favourite products, and to be honest most of us could have gone on about the rest of our beautiful make-up collection for hours.  Do you have a favourite Nude by Nature product? Ever Wondered What's In Your Make-up?

Many of us these days are a lot more conscious about the food that we eat - in terms of for example; its source, organic certification, nutritional value or total sugar content.  This has then rolled on to the skincare and make-up products that we consume. When it comes particularly to the make-up we decide to purchase, a lot of people are starting to look more widely for products that are vegan friendly, cruelty-free, made with natural ingredients or considered to be part of the clean beauty movement.   The tricky thing though is that when we are standing in-store at a cosmetics aisle trying to figure out what product is going to suit our needs best - it's harder than expected to understand the nitty gritty about ingredient lists, claims on packaging, product manufacturing and industry certifications.  What is often misunderstood as well, is that if a brand says they're vegan friendly that doesn't automatically mean their products for example are made with 100% natural ingredients, or that they're cruelty-free.  To help you understand the most used terminology around cosmetics, we thought it could be a good idea to break open some common misconceptions, and to share these with you: Question: What does it mean when a product is 'natural'? Answer: The term 'natural' is used globally yet there isn't a universally agreed definition. A common definition is the following: A natural product is made only with ingredients derived from nature and formulated without any synthetic (artificial) ingredients. All Nude by Nature products are made with 100% natural ingredients and formulated without synthetic ingredients or preservatives often found in cosmetics such as Silicone, Siloxanes, Phthalates, Sulphates, PEGS, Triclosan, Phenoxyethanol or Parabens, and do not contain Carmine, Talc or Bismuth Oxychloride. Question: How do we know if a product is really cruelty-free? Answer: If a brand is cruelty-free, they should be accredited by an internationally-recognised cruelty-free program or organisation such as PETA, Leaping Bunny or Choose Cruelty Free. Formally accredited brands must adhere to specific development and distribution criteria, and must also pass strict review and approval processes to prove their cruelty-free commitment and become acknowledged as genuine cruelty-free advocates. Nude by Nature is proudly cruelty-free, PETA certified and accredited by Choose Cruelty Free.  Question: How do we know if a product is really vegan? Answer: Unless the product is certified vegan, you’re relying on the brand to correctly declare if a product is considered vegan friendly or not. A product labelled ‘vegan’ must not contain any animal products, animal by-products, or animal derivatives. One of the biggest misconceptions about vegan products is that it infers the product is also ‘natural’. Not all vegan products are natural or plant-based, these product attributes are vastly different from one another. Nude by Nature deliver natural, cruelty-free make-up, and the brand has a broad selection of vegan friendly products in the range, plus an extensive range of cruelty-free professional make-up brushes.  Question: Are Nude by Nature products all vegan? Answer: Many Nude by Nature products are considered vegan friendly. You can find the list of our vegan friendly products here. Some of our formulas contain ethically sourced beeswax or lanolin. No animals are harmed in the production of these ingredients. Beeswax is a natural wax produced by honey bees which is known to possess soothing and softening properties, and helps the skin retain moisture. Lanolin is a natural wax found in sheep’s wool, which is known to smooth and moisturise by assisting replenishment of essential lipids to enhance skin's natural moisture retention.   Question: Are vegan products cruelty-free?  Answer: Not necessarily. A product that is vegan does not contain any animal ingredients or animal derived ingredients. This includes, but is not limited to: carmine, collagen, gelatine, and many others. The term “cruelty free” means no animals are harmed, exploited or tested on. This can be misleading as to many the term is associated with being vegan which isn’t always the case. A product can be cruelty-free without being vegan. Question: Some labels simply say that the product is ‘chemical-free' - what does this mean?  Answer: The term ‘chemical free’ is often used by cosmetic and skincare brands to highlight that a product is free of synthetic (artificial) chemicals. Question: What does ‘plant-based’ mean? Answer: Plant-based refers to using botanical ingredients that originate from plants (roots, flowers, fruits, leaves or seeds). Plant-based does not necessarily mean natural. While these products may contain a percentage of ingredients that are of plant origin, it’s possible the remaining ingredients are of synthetic origin. It’s always best to check the label. With Nude by Nature, there’s no compromise. High performing natural formulas made with 100% natural ingredients and formulated without synthetic ingredients or preservatives. Every single ingredient within the Nude by Nature range has been carefully selected to deliver exceptional results, including some of nature’s most powerful ingredients possessing moisturising, anti-ageing and skin nourishing benefits to help perfect the complexion. The range features native Australian ingredients such as Kakadu Plum, known to have the world's richest source of natural Vitamin C, Lilly Pilly, and Cehami to provide antioxidant defence and benefit the skin. We hope the above helps you understand more about the make-up you use daily, and definitely let us know if you have any questions regarding the above information.  DISCOVER MORE
