Our Top 5 Contouring & Highlighting Tips

We are all uniquely beautiful, and we each like to create make-up looks to enhance and define our favourite facial features. In the past couple of years contouring and highlighting make-up products have been much discussed, and the total products available in this category have increased dramatically. It can be said that J-Lo, Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga have each put a big spotlight on looks created using contouring and highlighting products. A quick search of Pinterest reveals multiple examples of each. Each of these make-up terms can be defined as: Contouring Make-up: Is used to add shade and depth to specific areas of the face to sculpt, define and add dimension. Contouring is commonly used on the nose, cheekbones, chin and forehead. Matte, neutral shades are usually used.    Highlighting Make-up: Is used to add dimension, radiance or luminosity to emphasise facial features. Highlighting is also known as strobing. Areas of the face where people frequently use highlighter are the cheekbones, nose, cupids bow, temple and hairline (forehead). Shimmer shades such as rose or champagne are often popular choices. When it comes to top tips for contouring and highlighting we recommend: 1. Use good quality make-up brushes: It may seem obvious, however using the right make-up tool can make all the difference. Our make-up brushes are all made of ultra-soft high-quality synthetic fibres, as we are proudly cruelty-free. We have three specific make-up brushes you can select from; Pointed Precision Brush, Ultimate Perfecting Brush and Contour Brush. Each of these make-up brushes has been created as a tool for creating contouring and highlighting looks. 2. Figure out what suits your face shape best: Contouring and highlighting products need to be applied on different parts of your face, depending on its shape. For example, if you have an oval shaped face, it’s a good idea to contour slightly below your cheekbones, and the sides of your forehead. You can also use a highlighter in the middle of your face; on your forehead and chin if you have an oval shaped face. 3. Textures count: We have a variety of powder, liquid and cream textures that give different effects on the skin and may suit your personal application style better. If you are a person who loves to use your fingers then creams are a better solution, and tend to give a more radiant skin finish that is ideal for dry complexions. Instead the powder foundations are ideal for a more oily complexion. 4. Blend with blush: People often think you place your blush on where you have your bronzer, however if you want to accentuate the cheek its best to contour under the cheekbone, then seamlessly blend the blush on the apple and up to the highlight. It’s a great way to create a flawless and elegant look. 5. Less is more: Contour has evolved since its mass insurgence into the regular beauty world, and has gone from extreme to now being much more wearable and discrete. After you have created the shape you desire, go back and blend out the edges and make it look just like the natural curves of your face. If you’re looking to try a new selection of contouring and highlighting products, we have a collection of 100% naturally derived liquid, powder and cream products. The collection is easy to use and enhances natural contours, to create a flawless natural healthy look. The complete collection is found here on our website. A couple of the products included are detailed below with useful tutorial videos for each: Contour Palette: An easy to use contour palette with three matte shades to sculpt, define and highlight. The silky, buildable powders blend effortlessly into the skin for a gorgeous finish that flatters every skin tone or face shape. Our recommended application process is: 1. Contour: Apply under cheekbones and to hairline, temples and jawline. 2. Bronze: Apply onto apples of cheeks blending up the cheekbone. 3. Highlight: Apply to tops of the cheekbones, under the brow and down the bridge of the nose. We’ve also created a handy tutorial video for the Contour Palette. Click below to watch: Contour Fluid Trio: This liquid trio is used to create a soft and naturally defined look with contour, neutralising and highlighting shades. The fine liquid texture melts into the skin to create a weightless second skin finish. Available in three shades for you to customise to the contour finish you desire. Our recommended application process is: 1. Contour: Apply under cheekbones and to hairline, temples and jawline. 2. Neutralise: Apply to cheeks and any imperfections 3. Travel Beauty Essentials: The Non-Negotiables For Every Suitcase

Whether you’re heading away for a lovely long weekend this Easter, or planning this year’s European sojourn, beauty products are always a crucial part of any travel packing list. At times, our travel make-up bag could be compared to the total pairs of shoes we pack. When total weight is all important, we need to determine the non-negotiables. Whilst in the planning phase, it’s worth researching the climate and environmental conditions to expect at your destination which will determine not only what you pack in terms of clothing, but also the best and most useful beauty products to have in your make-up bag. It’s here that you should also consider how you are traveling to your destination, and what products you’ll need for carry-on luggage - especially when it comes to long-haul flights. We recently interviewed beauty journalist Sigourney Cantelo, who shared with us that when it comes to beauty products she travels with her must-haves include, “Multi-use products such as a blush cream you can use on your lips or a highlighter cream that you’ll use on your eyes. A silk eye mask is essential and really good silicone earplugs.” Read the interview here. We also heard from travel blogger and photographer Aubrey Daquinag whose advice was similar to Sigourney’s, “I always think less is more and a product that has versatility always makes my travel beauty kit. Make sure your eyebrows and eyelashes are groomed and keep it simple with your base (always wear sunscreen!).” You can read more from Aubrey here.  In addition to selecting the products you’ll use to stay hydrated (as well as lots of water) and comfortable on-board (here we’re talking about travel clothes, high quality earplugs or noise cancelling headphones, scarf, travel pillow, toothbrush and eye mask!) whilst flying and during your trip, we’ve compiled the below list of make-up essentials for every travel bag: Travel size make-up products - Smaller, lightweight travel size products are perfect for packing into any suitcase or travel bag. They’re easier to fit into small spaces, and some will last for the exact duration of your trip, so can be binned before you head home. Travel size products are often found in make-up kits or gift sets, and quite often come with a handy travel size make-up bag too. You can check out our Complexion Essentials Starter Kit here. This kit features the award winning Natural Mineral Cover as well as a selection of our good for you complexion must-haves such as the Airbrush Mineral Primer, Liquid Mineral Concealer and Mineral Bronzer. All products featured come in a travel size. Foundation & Concealer - Generally when on holiday, we prefer to go for a lightweight natural make-up look, and to use a foundation product that includes SPF protection. It’s for this reason that BB Cream’s are often the best choice for the foundation that you pack. Take for example our Sheer Glow BB Cream. It’s an all-in-one BB cream that delivers sheer to light coverage, instantly enhances the complexion and includes SPF 8 protection. The Sheer Glow BB Cream formula contains active natural ingredients and the non-greasy silky texture is enriched with moisturising Aloe Vera and Desert Date Oil to benefit the skin. You may prefer a loose mineral powder foundation such as our best selling Natural Mineral Cover - it’s feather-light formula is composed of skin nourishing ingredients such as Jojoba Esters, includes SPF 15 and it delivers sheer to full coverage with a satin radiant finish. For touch ups on the go, an alternative you can take in your travel make-up bag is the Pressed Mineral Cover, composed of moisturising ingredients such as Avocado Oil. This pressed mineral powder foundation delivers medium to full coverage with a matte finish, and lasts for up to 8 hours. Concealer is a worthy addition to both your carry on and travel make-up kit. Some of the key benefits for using concealers include refreshing tired looking eyes, camouflaging dark circles and skin imperfections plus disguising blemishes. A stick concealer like our Flawless Concealer is a great product to include in your carry on bag. The Flawless Concealer is a long wearing concealer that expertly disguises dark circles and pigmentation. It’s creamy full coverage formula offers a satin matte finish and comes in an easy-to-use stick that delivers just the right amount of product. Highlight & Contour - We all love to add definition and radiance to our facial features, and highlighting and contouring products are the perfect way to do this. These versatile make-up essentials can quite often be adapted to use in other ways making them perfect to have in your travel make-up bag. The Touch of Glow Highlight Stick is one such product. The glide-on cream-to-powder texture is composed of 100% naturally derived ingredients including Kakadu Plum and Quandong. It’s available in three shades and our suggested application is directly to the cheekbones, along the eyebrow arches, or to the upper and lower eyelids and blend in with fingers. You can also use the Touch of Glow Highlight Stick to add a natural glow to your shoulders and collarbones, as an eyeshadow or blush, on the lips for a little colour, or by applying to the centre of your eyelid to make your eyes appear bigger and more awake. You may also like to check out our Contour Palette which comes with a handy mirror making application quick and easy. The three matte shades of the Contour Palette each create perfectly sculpted features in three quick steps; Contour: To shape and define the contours of the face Bronze: To warm up the complexion Highlight: To enhance features with a soft luminosity Eyes - When it comes to eye make-up to have on hand whilst on holiday the easier to use the better! When selecting an eyeshadow it’s a good idea to avoid loose eyeshadows that could spill all over your bag, and to look more towards selecting neutral shades which you can use for both day and night looks, plus to match most outfits you wear. Each of the Natural Illusion Eyeshadow Trio’s come with three shades, and you can select from the Nude, Rose or Smoky Trio sets. Click here to discover more about the Natural Illusion Eyeshadow Trio in Rose. The feather-light formula of this eyeshadow trio is enriched with active natural ingredients including Sweet Almond Oil and Desert Lime to create smooth and even colour with each application. The set also comes with a cruelty-free double ended brush. Another compact size eyeshadow (with mirror) you could pack for your trip is the Natural Illusion Pressed Eyeshadow. Available in 12 shades and three finishes (matte, satin and sheen), the richly pigmented texture of this eyeshadow blends effortlessly onto the lid and provides smooth and even application with each sweep of colour. You can also use your eyeshadow as a blush or highlighter. Mascara is one of those basic beauty products that instantly adds volume and definition to the eyes, and can be quickly applied any time of the day to make your eyes pop. Mascara allows you to accentuate your eyes, and it’s possible to layer your mascara to go from a day to dramatic night look in no time at all. Our Allure Defining Mascara is a vitamin enriched mascara that creates length and definition thanks to its unique flexible brush and buildable formula. It’s also enriched with Pro Vitamin B5 to condition your lashes over time. Make-up Brushes - Aka ‘The Tools of the Trade’! Once you’ve finalised all of the make-up products you’ll be packing, you can decide on the best mix of brushes for you. Maybe you’ll select just a couple of must-haves (especially if they are travel sized), or instead to pack a brush set. Two of our cruelty-free make-up brushes are the Kabuki Brush and the Travel Brush. The Kabuki Brush is a multitasking tool that adds a polish to all powder and bronzer applications creating an airbrushed finish. The Travel Brush instead is a retractable make-up brush (great for keeping bristles clean in your make-up bag), suitable for all powder formulas with short, tightly packed bristles that effortlessly delivers an airbrushed finish, on the go. If you think you’ll need more than a couple of multitasking heroes to create your holiday make-up looks, another option to consider is a make-up brush set. Our 7 piece Essential Collection Brush Set is a collection of cruelty-free versatile rose gold make-up brushes encased in an animal-friendly faux leather zip bag. Perfect for home or travel, the zip case makes for easy organisation and storage of your brushes and Nude by Nature make-up favourites. The brushes included provide you with the professional tools you’ll need to create a flawless complexion, to contour your key facial features, and to add colour and definition to your cheeks and eyes. The 7 brushes within this collection are: Kabuki Brush Powder Brush Concealer Brush Eyeshadow Brush Eye blending Brush Eye definer Brush Lip Brush Now all you need to do is get to the airport on time, passport in hand and out of office message on. Autumn Beauty Essentials

When Autumn hits, so generally does dry skin. If you’ve updated your skincare regime to combat the effects of dry skin; including showering with lukewarm rather than hot water, using a heavier moisturiser daily and hydrating by drinking plenty of water, we’ve also got a few tips relating to make-up essentials to help you create your favourite looks for the cooler seasons and for your skin to feel great. Autumn is the perfect time for warm make-up looks in plum, burgundy and rusty coloured shades to match the season. It’s also the time to consider using slightly different make-up products to the warmer months when we deal with conditions like humidity and the hot sun, prefer wearing lighter weight make-up and our skin is also naturally more tanned. Here’s Our List of Autumn Make-up Essentials: Primer: The perfect beauty product to ensure your make-up lasts all day in all conditions and goes on smoothly. Primer can also help you add moisture to your skin. Our Airbrush Mineral Primer is a silicone-free primer that creates an even, luminous base for application of your make-up. It’s packed with active natural ingredients such as Kakadu Plum known as being the world’s richest source of Vitamin C plus the moisturising Vitamin E which is also rich in antioxidants. To read more about primers, click here to read our recent blog post. Liquid Foundation: Staying with the hydrating make-up products theme, it’s a good idea to go with a liquid foundation in Autumn, to help add moisture and to provide extra coverage than you need in Summer. Another tip is to change your foundation shade, as we are naturally darker in the Summer months when we are tanned. Our Liquid Mineral Foundation is a sheer liquid foundation composed of 100% naturally derived skin nourishing ingredients, and it delivers a dewy radiant finish. The hydrating formula helps fight visible signs of ageing and improves your skin’s natural radiance with each application. Concealer: As our Summer tan fades, unfortunately skin imperfections and dark circles become more visible. For this reason concealer is an important product to have with you during the cooler months - really, at all times - it’s such a handy make-up product! As per your foundation selection a creamy liquid concealer composed of moisturising ingredients can help avert dry skin during Autumn. You can try our Liquid Mineral Concealer for example. It’s been created to cover dark circles, puffiness and hyper-pigmentation. It’s suitable for all skin types and composed of active natural ingredients including Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E. We recently published a blog post about the benefits of concealer. Click here to read the post. Illuminator & Highlighter: Our skin can feel a little dull during Autumn, so it’s nice to be able to use a make-up product specifically for adding radiance and a luminous sheen to brighten the finished look. Two products that are perfectly suited to providing dimension, warmth and a natural glow are illuminators and highlighters. Each create a specific look with highlighters used to deliver a concentrated area of intense colour, whilst illuminators are used across the face to add a beautiful sheen to the skin. The Nude by Nature Soft Focus Illuminator is a light-reflecting liquid illuminator that instantly illuminates and adds a gorgeous luminosity to the skin. It is composed of 100% naturally derived ingredients including Jojoba Oil and soothing Colloidal Oat Extract plus can be used as a base or applied over make-up. One of our most popular highlighter products is the Touch of Glow Highlight Stick. It’s a versatile, easy to use product available in three shades. The glide-on cream-to-powder texture is created using hydrating ingredients such as Vitamin E and Desert Lime. Eyes: Finally, we’re on to eyes! Eye make-up is such a brilliant way to brighten up your Autumn look. It’s a good idea to start with an eye primer to create an even base for your eye make-up. You can discover more about our silicone-free Perfecting Eye Primer here. A great way to add colour is with eyeshadow. You may debate creating a plum, olive or darker earthy eye. Check out our Natural Illusion Pressed Eyeshadow which comes in 12 shades and three vibrant finishes; matte, satin and sheen. The richly pigmented and silky smooth texture of this pressed eyeshadow blends effortlessly onto the eyelid providing a smooth even application. You can use it alone for a wash of colour, smudged along the lash line for a smoky look or apply it precisely along the lashes for natural definition. An alternative eye palette to discover more about is the Natural Wonders Eye Palette. One palette with 10 shades, and inspired by Australia’s diverse natural colours, the richly pigmented luminous shades are perfect for creating an endless array of Autumn day-to-night eye looks. Like all Nude by Nature products the Natural Wonders Eye Palette is composed of 100% naturally derived ingredients and cruelty-free. Another way to add definition to your eye make-up look is with an eye pencil. A brown shade is perfect for an Autumn eye. Here we recommend you try our Contour Eye Pencil which is a creamy glide on eye pencil that comes in six shades to complement every eye colour and in two different finishes, matte or sheen. The key ingredient is Macadamia Oil; with benefits including skin softening and soothing. Finish your look off with mascara and you’re ready! Whether it’s a day or night look, the Allure Defining Mascara is a unique vitamin enriched mascara with a buildable formula to create intense definition and length, naturally.

Create The Look: Autumn Make-up Inspiration

It’s Autumn already. How did that happen? It was New Year’s Eve only five minutes ago! A change in season generally includes us seeking inspiration via social media, online and from magazines for trends and looks we can incorporate into our wardrobe, hairstyles and of course make-up. Inevitably, this currently includes us doing a wardrobe makeover; figuring out what we will wear again this Autumn, what needs to be updated, and what can be turfed or given to a favourite charity. In the past year fashion runways around the world have seen Autumn make-up looks focused on warm, dramatic and colourful eye looks finished with a berry or natural lip. Luckily for us, the 2018 Fall Fashion Weeks are just wrapping up in Paris, and that means we’ve got lots of looks to use as inspiration here in Australia. We’ve plucked three looks straight from the runway as Autumn eye make-up inspiration, and put together a step by step for how you too can create each eye look with a selection of the Nude by Nature make-up collection. 1) First up, is the gorgeous Kaia Gerber at the Alexander Wang show, at New York Fashion Week. Step One: To have a long wearing, crease free eye, prepare with the Perfecting Eye Primer.  Step Two: Using the Shimmering Sands Loose Eyeshadow in White Sand, press the pigment onto the mobile lid and then gently blend the edges nearly up to the brow and inner corner. Step Three: Blend the Natural Illusion Pressed Eyeshadow in shade Sunset though the crease, outer corners of the lid and along the bottom lash line. Step Four: On the top lid only, line with the Contour Eye Pencil in Brown and smudge it out for a very soft effect. Complete with lashings of the Allure Defining Mascara on top and bottom lashes. Image credit: Getty Images / JP Yim via Popsugar. 2) Next, is a look created for London Fashion Week focused around a subtle smudged eye. Step One: Use the Contour Eye Pencil in Brown along the upper and lower lashes. Don’t be too concerned about the detail as you will then use the smudger tip to completely blur around the eye. You’re wanting to create a faint definition, not a solid line. Step Two: With the Natural Illusion Pressed Eyeshadow in shade Sunset create a gentle wash across the lid and through the crease and continue under the eye. Again, it’s not about solid pigment with this look, just subtle washes of colour. Step Three: With the Shimmering Sands Loose Eyeshadow in White Sand, dip the Eye Shadow Brush from the Essential Collection Brush Set into the pigment then tap off the excess. On the centre of the lid create a pop of shimmer and blend toward the inner corner, with a little also under the brow. Step Four: Complete with lashings of the Allure Defining Mascara on top lashes only. Image credit: IMAXTREE / Matteo Valle via Popsugar.  3) Final look is also from London Fashion Week; at the Temperley show. Step One: To have a long wearing, crease free eye, prepare with the Perfecting Eye Primer. Step Two: Using the Shimmering Sands Loose Eyeshadow in Coral Sand, press the pigment onto the mobile lid and then gently blend the edges nearly right up to the brow and inner corner (remember; you are blending it softly out, not a solid application of the pigment). Then apply softly to the bottom lash line. Step Three: With the Shimmering Sands Loose Eyeshadow in White Sand, highlight under the brow bone and the inner corner and blend into the Shimmering Sands Loose Eyeshadow Coral Sand to create a slight amber effect. Step Four: On the top lid only, create a tight line with the Contour Eye Pencil in Brown then get slightly heavier on the outer lids. Complete with lashings of the Allure Defining Mascara on top and bottom lashes. Image credit: IMAXTREE / Matteo Valle/IMAXTREE.COM via Popsugar.  As a nice extra bonus, you’ll find all of the products mentioned in each of the above make-up tutorials in our just released Autumn Collection make-up kits. You can select from the Autumn Collection or Autumn Discovery Collection. Each make-up kit is packed with 100% naturally derived beauty essentials inspired by Australia’s stunning colour palette plus feature the Essential Collection Brush Set, and are perfect for creating all your favourite Autumn make-up looks. Step 2: Brighten The Eyes Using Shade 7 of the Natural Wonders Eye Palette (salmon) with the 15 Blending Brush, start applying this shade all over the eyelid focusing on the crease and the inner corner of the eyes. You’ll notice that together with Shade 2, the colour is intensified. This is great for making your eyes appear brighter, younger and more awake. Keep blending back and forth to smooth any harsh edges. Step 3: Pop Of Colour Now this is the fun part! Using the 17 Angled Eyeliner Brush, line your bottom lashline with Shade 8 from the Natural Wonders Eye Palette. Don’t worry if the line isn’t perfect, this colour will add a ‘smoky’ effect to the eyeliner that you will apply in the next step. Step 4: Line The Eyes Taking the Contour Eye Pencil in Turquoise Bay, line the bottom water line to intensify the blue and contour and shape the eyes. Step 5: A Few Coats To Go Finish the look with a few coats of the Allure Defining Mascara in 01 Black. This will give you intensified, lengthened and separated lashes in an instant while your lashes remain soft and flexible without any flaking. Don’t forget to complete the look with a beautiful Spring dress and a bright flower crown or fascinator.
